The Practice of Christian Healing: Roy Lawrence (SPCK)
A look at what Christian healing is, and isn’t. If you are wanting
to be more involved in the ministry of Christian healing and want
to find ways of bringing that ministry into your practice, then
this book is a good starting point.
The Healing Promise – is it always God’s will to heal? :
Richard Mayhue (Christian Focus Publcations)
A critique of the healing movement alongside a consideration
of key bible passages on healing and an examination of some of
the pastoral issues involved – lots of sound Christian common sense,
despite the Americanisms. Invaluable for anyone wanting to understand
the nature of any distinctively Christian ministry of healing.
Christian Healing – What can we believe? : Ernest Lucas, Ed. (SPCK)
An exploration of Christian healing with each chapter being written
jointly by a theologian and a doctor. Issues addresses include, ‘how
are people healed today?’ ‘The relationship between the medical and
the spiritual in healing,’ ‘the significance of Jesus’ healing ministry,’
‘psychiatry and religion.’ Many contributors also deal with the pastoral
question, how should we pray for the sick?
Miraculous Healing: Henry W Frost (OMF)
Originally published in 1031, the language and medicine is somewhat
dated, never the less this is still an enlightening read. Henry Frost
worked for China Inland Mission and in this book describes 5 notable
healings and 5 notable failures. In this context, and a context of
personal humility and godliness, he then goes to look at the sovereignty
of God in healing, and how the faith of the patient, and the energy and
godliness of those praying do not determine whether healing occurs.
Prayers for Health and Healing: SPCK Prayer Collection (SPCK)
A collection of 140 prayers covering 80 different subjects ranging from
babies to bereavement and stress to sleeplessness. There are also specific
prayers for doctors, nurses and hospitals – helpful to reads and easy to
reference, all in all a useful resource.
